OFFICIELL: Dodge Challenger SRT8!

Men nu är den i alla fall officiellt officiell och har fått sin publika premiär på Chicago-salongen. Under huven hittar vi Hemi-V8:an på 6,1 liter och 425 hk. Politiskt korrekt? Nej! Kul? Det kan du fethaja!

Tillsammans med nya Chevrolet Camaro måste Dodge Challenger vara något av det mest lyckade i retrostil som vi sett de senaste åren. Modern, tuff, egensinnig och på något märkligt sett ändå trogen originalet från muskelbilstiden. Produktionsbilen som ni ser på bilderna är mycket lik konceptbilen och det är bara att lyfta på hatten för Mike Castigliones design!
Det mesta av grundläggande fakta om nya Dodge Challenger känner vi till sedan förut, eftersom det läckt ut bit för bit sedan vi såg konceptbilen första gången för två år sedan. Challenger baserar sig på samma tekniska plattform som Dodge Charger, vilket innebär att den i sin tur är släkt med förra generationen Mercedes E-klass (hur konstigt det nu än kan låta). Challenger är däremot kortad en decimeter för att få bättre proportioner.
Vad vi har förstått från våra amerikanska kolleger så var det inte helt lätt att få den snygga designskisserna att funka i vindtunneln. Kort överhäng bak och lång motorhuv gjorde att det krävdes en hel del jobb innan lyftkrafterna neutraliserats. Bland annat är den lilla läppen på bakluckan mycket viktig för att få rätt släpp på luften.
Första årsmodellen, 2008, kommer inte att omfatta 12 månaders produktion på långa vägar och Chrysler LCC tror att man hinner bygga 10.000 bilar det här året. Samtliga bilar av första årsmodellen får en personlig plakett med serienumret graverat.
Till nästa år breddas motorutbudet och vi får sannolikt se en 3,5-liters V6 modell som inropare med cirka 250 hk samt den mindre Hemi-motorn på 5,7 liter och 350 hk. Båda dessa får sannolikt manuell låda som tillval, vilket inte 6,1 Hemi har - där är det standard med femstegad automat.

Till skillnad mot Ford Mustang har Challenger en multilink-bakaxel, vilket borde innebära bättre komfort och väghållning. KLICKA FÖR STÖRRE
Chassit har styvats upp rejält jämfört med Dodge Charger men är i grunden samma. Det innebär att Challenger har en delad bakaxel med multilinklänkage, till skillnad mot Ford Mustang som envisas med stel bakaxel. Det borde på pappret innebära att Challenger blir något bättre över ojämna vägar och får en stabilare väghållning även när det går riktigt fort.
Bakom de stora 20-tums fälgarna hittar vi rejäla Brembo-hejdare med skivbromsar som mäter 14,2 tum fram och 13,8 bak (360 respektive 350 millimeter i diameter). Däcken mäter 245/45-20 både fram och bak. ESP, antispinn och ABS-bromsar är förstås standard. ESP och antispinn är ställbara, ifall man vill göra en fullständigt politiskt inkorrekt burnout framför Gröna Bilisters kontor.

Interiören på Challenger är inte lika retroinspirerad som hos flera av de andra muskelbilarna. KLICKA FÖR STÖRRE
Accelerationssiffrorna är inte offentliga ännu men en uppskattning är att 0 - 100 km/h avverkas på cirka 5,4 sekunder. Priset i USA är 37.995 dollar, vilket rakt av till svenska kronor blir cirka 245.000 kronor. Vad ett svenskt pris skulle bli är svårt att sia om, lägg på minst en hundring.
